What is piston ring and its features

Piston seal ring (Piston Ring) is also known as the expanding ring rotating seal. DSH Seals tells you that this kind of seal relies on the tight fit between the elastic force of the metal piston ring seal and the sealed surface to achieve the seal of the sealing medium, which is called a piston ring seal or a rotating ring seal.

When the piston ring is working (as shown in Figure 1-1), the piston ring is pushed to the lower pressure P2 under the action of the pressure difference between its medium pressure P1 (2 lower right corner) and the other pressure P2 (2 lower right corner) (2 lower right corner), thus sealing the gas leakage along the end face of the ring groove.

The key features of piston ring are:

1. Good pressure resistance, wide working range, generally 20 MPa, when the piston diameter is less than 600 mm, the maximum working pressure can reach 32 MPa.

2. Reliable work and long life.

3. The friction resistance is small.

4. It has good temperature resistance and a wide applicable temperature range, generally 200.

5. Strong wear compensation ability.

6. Piston rings made of self-lubricating materials such as graphite or filled PTFE can run without oil.

7. Due to the opening, there is a certain amount of leakage. It is suitable for reciprocating motion sealing and rotary motion sealing, such as sealing of various piston compressors, hydraulic cylinders and motor pistons or plungers.
