What Industries Are Shallow Groove Mechanical Seals Suitable For?

The mechanical seal is sealed with a shallow groove structure. Although the sealing effect is good, if the fluid contains impurities or dirt, it may block the sealing groove, so that the existence of the liquid film cannot be successfully maintained, and the fluid dynamic seal will be lost. If the function of the seal is over, the wear of the seal face and the mechanical damage will soon occur, and at the same time, it may cause serious seal leakage and reduce the service life of the seal. At the same time, shallow groove seals also have high requirements for installation accuracy, which directly affects the use effect of the seal. Studies have shown that the dynamic pressure effect of shallow groove non-contact mechanical seals is more stable at high speeds.
Generally speaking, shallow groove mechanical seals may give preference to dry gas seals under the following circumstances:
Zero escape of sealing medium is required;
The frictional temperature rise of the sealing medium;
Requirements for craft products;
The pump is easily evacuated and the seal runs dry;
The sealing auxiliary system is required to be simple and reliable;
Requires low cost of sealing maintenance, etc.;
Shallow groove mechanical seals can eliminate complex seal assistance systems when used to seal gases. The scope of application of upstream pumping seals is roughly similar to that of dry gas seals. Although its energy saving and consumption reduction effect is not as good as that of dry gas seals, it has a wide range of applications, that is, it can be sealed with zero leakage under some less severe conditions. There is no need for a buffer auxiliary system, and it can be used as a zero escape seal that requires a buffer system under conditions that require strict control of the leakage of the sealing medium, but the pressure of the buffer is much lower than the pressure of the sealing medium. From the perspective of performance, the upstream pumping seal should have a wider range of use.
