For most applications suitable for ordinary single-lip oil seals, DSH Seals tells you that the selection of oil seals can be based on these 7 points, namely, shaft diameter, groove aperture, groove width, shaft speed, working temperature, Liquid pressure drop and usage conditions.
As a general rule, standard lip seals can provide satisfactory performance under pressure differences as high as 0.7 bar or even 1 bar. To be able to seal higher liquid pressures, an improved oil seal with a thicker lip section or with a supporting seal ring will be required. This oil seal can provide sufficient performance under a pressure difference of up to 7 bar. If the pressure difference is greater, other types of seals, such as end face oil seals, are used.
The use conditions cause factors that reduce the performance of the oil seal, and can change the selection of the required oil seal form.
